Situated in the heart of the Cotswolds, Chastleton is surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, charming villages, historic landmarks and is home to Chastleton House, a Grade I listed Jacobean manor and gardens.  It is a rare time capsule of family life 400 years ago and one of the last remaining examples of Jacobean architecture left in the UK. Now owned and managed by the National Trust since 1991, it was built between 1607 and 1612 by Walter Jones, a wealthy wool merchant, as an impressive statement of his wealth and power. The house has remained unchanged for over 400 years with virtually no intrusion from the 21st century, so you can truly experience and imagine stepping back in time. They say the game of Croquet originated from the gardens at Chastleton House and you can still enjoy a game there today on one of the two pitches whilst having a picnic in the beautiful grounds. Whether you're looking for a leisurely stroll through quaint countryside lanes or a hike through the rolling hills, there's something to offer everyone and the local church is often open with local charities serving tea, coffee and cake.
